How to Wash Printed T-Shirts and Prevent Fading

The most common cause of graphic tee degradation is improper washing. Follow these guidelines to keep your Tokiyo prints looking fresh for years.

The Golden Rules

  1. Turn inside-out before washing. This is the single most important step. It protects the print from abrasion against other garments and the machine drum.
  2. Use cold water only. Hot water degrades print adhesion and shrinks cotton fibres. Always wash at 30C or below.
  3. Use a gentle cycle. High-speed agitation stresses both fabric and print. Choose the delicate or gentle programme.
  4. Use mild detergent. Avoid detergents with bleach or optical brighteners - they strip colour from both fabric and prints.
  5. Do not tumble dry. Heat is the enemy of graphic prints. Always air dry, preferably inside-out in indirect light.

What to Avoid

  • Never iron directly on a print - always iron inside-out
  • Avoid dry cleaning
  • Do not wring the garment
  • Keep away from direct sunlight while drying

Our Quality Promise
